The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has handed NOC to star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and batter Liton Das to play the Global T20 League Canada, cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told the media today.

Bangladesh's stand-in skipper, Liton Das, informed that he could not have asked for more after the way his sealed a record 546-run win over Afghanistan in the fourth day of the lone Test in Mirpur on Saturday.

Bangladesh batter Liton Das was undone for a 15-ball nine by left-arm wrist-spinner Zahir Khan leaving Bangladesh five down for 290 after 63.1 overs for 15 runs on the first day of the only Test against Afghanistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. 

These two teams have met once before in this format, with Afghanistan claiming victory in that memorable encounter in Chattogram back in 2019. 

"As the vice captain of a side, at times I had to act as the captain and lead the side for two or three overs when [Test skipper] Shakib [Al Hasan] was off the field. So, I was never worried about being the captain," a confident Liton asserted

Bangladesh’s captain for the one-off Test Liton Das was not feeling anything different than usual, standing in for regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan. The Mirpur track however may serve something different this time with Tigers banking on their pace attack which may be complemented by a green wicket.

Bangladesh have a few injury worries to deal with as the one-off Test against Afghanistan approaches. ODI captain Tamim Iqbal and stand-in Test skipper Liton Das are battling with back issues. However, the injuries are not of an acute nature.

Liton Das is set to make his debut as Test captain, standing-in for Shakib Al Hasan who is out injured, as the Bangladesh squad was announced yesterday for the lone Test against Afghanistan, to be held in Dhaka from June 14.

Liton Das was in immense form last year across formats and consequently picked up the top Kool-BSPA (Bangladesh Sports Press Association) sports award yesterday at a ceremony held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital. The Bangladesh star batter has not shone in a similar way this year but said he was not worried about his current form.

Shakib Al Hasan, the world’s No. 1 all-rounder, has signed up for the Sri Lankan Premier League (LPL) franchise Galle Gladiators. The signing has been done under a direct contract, as per reports in Sri Lankan media.
