Liverpool took top spot in the Champions League table on Wednesday with a dominant 2-0 victory over holders Real Madrid thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

The coach had admitted, after his team's 5-2 first leg defeat by the European champions at Anfield in February, that his side's hopes of progress were extinguished

The Reds won their first three matches against Real in European competition, between 1981 and 2009. Since then, however, they are winless in six games against them, with five of those ending in defeat
