Madhumita Cinema Hall, one of Dhaka’s historic film theatres located in Motijheel, has maintained a strong tradition over the years, celebrating its golden jubilee in 2022. Today, Iftekhar Uddin Noushad, the owner, confirmed that the cinema will close permanently following this year’s Eid screenings. He also shared with The Daily Star that a new multiplex will be built in its place.

On-site reports from Madhumita Cinema Hall revealed that a group of enraged fans stormed the theatre, causing significant damage. Several people kicked and shattered the glass doors, tore down posters, and destroyed display boards.

Whenever Shah Rukh Khan's or any Bollywood film is released, a significant number of Bangladeshi viewers opt to travel to India to watch the movie. Hall owners believe that releasing these films simultaneously in Bangladesh would be beneficial for our country.

With Eid just around the corner, it has been anticipated that a total of nine films would be released on the occasion.

Madhumita, one of the oldest cinema halls of Dhaka, will be temporarily closed from this Friday.
