All-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz made a return to the T20I side after a 14-month hiatus, while opener Parvez Hossain Emon and left-arm spinner Rakibul Islam were also called up as Bangladesh announced a 15-member squad today for the three-match T20I series against India, starting in Gwalior on October 6.   

Bangladesh are going into the India series on the back of a historic away series sweep against Pakistan. Their previous tour of India in 2019 hadn’t gone to well for them but all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz is adamant that this time the side is ready for the ‘fight’ against the ‘big side’.

The recent Pakistan series could prove to be the juncture that cricket historians later point to as the moment when Miraz eclipsed Shakib in the race, at least in the red-ball format.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz was stranded at 81 as Bangladesh lost their last three wickets in around 75 minutes of play on the final day of Chattogram Test, which Sri Lanka won by 192 runs to clinch the two-match series 2-0.

“We couldn’t prepare a lot [for the Tests]. We had T20s and ODIs [against Sri Lanka]. We had to play Tests just two [three] days after that. This might’ve been a reason.”

As Bangladesh and Sri Lanka go into the series decider in the third ODI in Chattogram tomorrow, there are likely to be a few changes for both sides.
