Bangladesh should be careful about falling into the middle-income trap, said Axel van Trotsenburg, the World Bank’s managing director of operations.

The prospective loan programme of the International Monetary Fund will prime Bangladesh for graduation from the least-developed country bracket and reach middle-income country status by 2031, said the lender’s top official.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina says Bangladesh will soon become an upper middle-income country, as the government has been implementing massive development works in light of the “Vision-2021”and “Vision-2041”.

Economic progress is meaningless if the people are not healthy enough to enjoy the progress. As Bangladesh pursues its dream of becoming a middle-income country, this dream must also be one of a Healthy Bangladesh.
