Rising star Dibya Jyoti has quickly made a name for himself in the hit web-series “Mohanagar 2”, solidifying his place among the new generation of actors. The skilled artiste is the son of celebrated playwright Brindaban Das and acclaimed actress Shahnaz Khushi.

The Critics category of the “Blender's Choice-The Daily Star OTT and Digital Content Awards 2023” witnessed stellar recognition for Dibya Jyoti and Tanzika Amin for their remarkable performances in “Mohanagar 2”. 

When it comes to speaking out against injustice and oppression, there aren’t many artistes who stand out as prominently as Ashfaque Nipun. Known for his active presence both online and on the ground, Nipun has been a vocal participant in various protests. His determination was evident during the quota reform movement, which later evolved into the anti-discrimination student movement and led to the dramatic fall of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime.

The highly anticipated 25th edition of the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards, one of Bangladesh's most prestigious entertainment events, dazzled the capital this evening. Celebrating its silver jubilee, this year's ceremony was grander than ever, adding an extra layer of excitement and significance.

In the dynamic landscape of Bengali entertainment, 2023 has proven to be a year of cinematic brilliance, particularly in the realm of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. The virtual space has become a battleground of talent, with actors rising to prominence through their exceptional performances in web series and films. As we bid adieu to 2023, it's time to acknowledge and celebrate the top 10 actors who have been the talk of the town, captivating audiences with their unmatched acting prowess.

The actor performed on stage in plays like Jean-Paul Sartre's “Deowal” and Momtaz Uddin's “Bornochora”. In the 1997-98 season, when Tarek and Russell moved to Dhaka, Rubel joined Tirjak. There, he acted in various plays such as Bertolt Brecht's “Samadhan” and Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet”. He also wrote plays for Tirjak, titled “Lojja” and “Shotyandho”.

Brindaban Das was featured in the second season of Ashfaque Nipun's much-hyped web series, "Mohanagar".

One of the unsung heroes, that are responsible for everything that you see on the screen apart from the protagonist, is the production design crew. And a facet of that department is Art Direction.

The show also stars Shamol Mawla, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Sarker Raunak Ripon, Afsana Mimi, Lutfor Rahman George, Brindaban Das, Tanzika Amin, Dibya Joyti, Nawshaba Ahmed, among others.

“The OTT platforms in our nation is still in its infancy stage, and could be considered small in our industry. However, it has the potential to be as vast as the sky,” shared Shamol Mawla.

Amidst all kinds of criticism, "Mohanagar" proved to be a landmark in the OTT industry, that will have an impact in the long run. “If we can open the avenue for liberal discussions and constructive criticism, especially to the visual mediums, then it will be essentially good for our own culture and the world will know us as broad-minded and adaptable,” he concludes.

The web series sheds light on the grey area where the dichotomy between the executive and political authorities collapses in Bangladesh.

Previously, he had appeared in the second season of the web series "Karagar". Further, he will be seen in Shaym Benegal's "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" and in another film "Nakshikantha".The actor is also the son of artistes, Brindaban Das and Shahnaz Khushi.

Often, most series end up being disappointing with new seasons, “Mohanagar” seems like a breath of fresh air. The cinematography, along with the right background scores, create a perfect ambience for a thriller. The ensemble cast consisting of Afsana Mini, Sarker Raunak Ripon among others deliver very convincing and enthralling performances.
