Bangladesh national cricket team’s captain Shakib Al Hasan led a host of former stars in getting nomination for the 12th national parliamentary elections from ruling Awami League while former national cricket captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy, an incumbent member of parliament, failed to secure nomination from the ruling party.

“We have to know what he [Tamim] thinks regarding the Asia Cup and whether he will play. If he plays, we will definitely ask for his opinion. Even if he communicates that he won’t be able to play, we have to think of alternatives and also ask for his opinion. We are hoping he will sit with us in the next one or two days,” the BCB president said yesterday

"Normally we give bonuses when we win a series, but since we won our first ODI against India and there were a few individual performances like Fargana Hoque who scoring a century, we decided to give Tk 25 lakh for the players," Papon told reporters

Bangladesh slumped to a 142-run defeat against Afghanistan in the second and penultimate ODI on Saturday to lose their first-ever ODI series against the visitors. The Tigers have enjoyed a healthy record at home and the series defeat was only their third at home since 2016. The question that most comes to mind is whether the defeat had more to do with non-cricketing reasons than cricketing ones.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon expressed his disappointment after the Tigers and then the women’s team ended up on the losing side in consecutive days.

The rough way in which even stalwarts like Tamim and Shakib are handled speaks volumes about the overall mistreatment of players by the BCB.
