Gary Stead announced Tuesday he will step down as New Zealand's white-ball cricket coach and is considering his future with the Test team.

If South Africa beat New Zealand to reach Sunday's decider, they will at least know by then if they will take on India in Dubai, or Australia in Lahore.

The Champions Trophy is the first major cricket event hosted by Pakistan in nearly three decades and is regarded as second only to the World Cup in the one-day game.

"As a young kid it was always my dream to play for New Zealand and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country," Guptill said in an statement to New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

Santner, who has played 107 one-day internationals and 106 Twenty20 internationals, will begin his tenure with a three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka from December 28.

The 34-year-old failed a drugs test after a domestic T20 game in January.

Santner will have a good mix of youth and experience in the squad with Nathan Smith and wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay being called up to the squad.

Oram will commence the role vacated by Shane Jurgensen towards the end of last year on October 7, with New Zealand's three-match ICC World Test Championship series in India the first assignment for the 46-year-old.
