Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty said her team is not yet thinking about direct qualification for this year's Women's ODI World Cup after inflicting a first-ever defeat on West Indies in Basseterre on Tuesday.

Nigar Sultana Joty became the country’s first women cricketer to hit a first-class century when she reached the three-figure mark for Central Zone on the final day of their three-day match against North Zone in the first round fixture of the Women’s Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi today.

To mark the occasion, captains Nigar Sultana Joty of Bangladesh and Gaby Lewis of Ireland added a touch of cultural charm to the proceedings by unveiling the series trophy at the Malnichera Tea Estate in Sylhet on Wednesday.

The footballers, fresh from their SAFF Championship triumph, also tried their hands in cricket at the indoor practice facility of SBNCS and impressed Joti with their skills!

She scored 104 runs in four innings at an average of 34.66, with a top score of 39 against the West Indies.

Unable to make opportunities count, Bangladesh ended the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with only one notable achievement as they managed to end a decade-long wait for a win in the competition when they notched up a 16-run victory in the tournament opener against Scotland in Sharjah earlier this month.
