To mark her 11th death anniversary on May 5, Bengal Foundation is hosting a special tribute titled “Novera – Smritir Abhijatra” (“Novera – A Journey Through Memory”) today (May 14) at 4pm, at Level 3, Bengal Shilpalaya, Dhanmondi 27.

How does a nation remember its artists? “What Novera is doing now will take us a long time to understand,” said legendary artist Zainul Abedin, decades ago. On Thursday (February 27) evening, as audiences watched the stories of Novera Ahmed and Monirul Islam unfold on the screen at Alliance Française de Dhaka, the weight of those words became clear.

THE book encompasses Novera Ahmed; the sculptor and individual through the eyes of many well known writers such as Mehboob Ahmed, Faiz Ahmed Faiz,Abdus Salam Choudhury, Rabiul Hussain, Rezaul Karim Sumon, S.M.Ali and many more.

Retrospect is a series of work by the first modern sculptor of Bangladesh, Novera Ahmed. It was the last exhibition of the eminent artist which was held in Paris in 2014.

Pioneer of Bangladesh’s modern sculpture as well as the forerunner of contemporary women emancipation in the country, Novera Ahmed is a name that has worn away in seclusion.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expresses deep shock at the death of eminent sculptor Novera Ahmed, the first modern sculptor of Bangladesh. Novera died at a hospital in Paris, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said.
