Young filmmaker Nuhash Humayun has carved out a niche for himself in the horror genre. At a recent event organised by the Dhaka University Film Society, he opened up about his journey as a filmmaker, the challenges of making horror films in Bangladesh, and his ambitions for the international stage.

Young Bangladeshi filmmaker Maksud Hossain has been selected for Berlinale Talents, a prestigious platform under the Berlin International Film Festival that recognises emerging filmmakers, producers, actors, cinematographers, and industry professionals making strides in their respective fields.

Sumaiya Shimu has confirmed that “Besura” marks her debut on the OTT platform, while Ismail Uddin Palakar ventures into acting for the first time.

A common question people ask about astrologers is, "Why can’t an astrologer predict their own fate?" The trailer for the new episode of “Dui Shaw”, titled “Bhaggo Bhalo”, addresses this intriguing question through Mosharraf Karim’s character, an astrologer.

Director Nuhash Humayun shared through a press release, "After committing a sin, some people feel remorse, while others don’t. In ‘Waqt’, I’ve delved into this psychological aspect. Writing and directing the story was a challenging experience for me. The narrative revolves around five main characters, which makes it particularly demanding. Even working with one character can be tough, let alone five. However, thanks to everyone’s support, I believe the project turned out well."

The Chorki Original series “Dui Shaw” offers a spine-chilling new horror experience, directed by Nuhash Humayun. The four-episode series will premiere its first episode, “Waqt,” on the Chorki OTT platform at 12 am on December 19. The trailer was released on December 12.

Four years ago, Nuhash Humayun announced his debut feature film, “Moving Bangladesh”. Initially, the project struggled to find producers but later received funding from several international festivals. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) also expressed interest in supporting the film. However, the ministry has now canceled its allocation of Tk 50 lakh for the project.  

The Bengali letter ‘Pett Kata Shaw’ translates to the ‘Split-Bellied Shaw.’ Despite its actual pronunciation being ‘Murdhanya-Sha,’ this quirky nickname is more widely used. Much like this letter’s unusual moniker, Bangladesh is home to a treasure trove of chilling folklore that leaves listeners with goosebumps.

The WGAW is a prominent labour union representing writers in film, television, radio, and new media. Established in 1954, it merged several organisations, including the Screen Writers Guild, and now boasts around 20,000 members. Nuhash's inclusion is a rare achievement for a Bangladeshi screenwriter and filmmaker, and it highlights his growing influence in Hollywood.

Nuhash Humayun's anthology web-series "Pett Kata Shaw'', featuring spine-chilling horror stories, garnered significant acclaim. The series includes four stories: "Ei Building E Meye Nishedh", "Mishti Kichu", "Loke Bole", and "Nishir Daak". Currently, Nuhash is engrossed in developing the second season of the series.
