Rebel chairman aspirants of union parishads from the Awami League and the BNP yesterday filed for candidacies in many places along with their party-nominated candidates on the last day for nomination submission.

BNP has finalised single chairman candidates in 718 union parishads as of last night with the deadline for filing nomination for the upcoming UP polls expiring today.

BNP alleges that the party’s possible chairmen aspirants for the upcoming Union Parishad polls are being harassed in many places.

BNP calls upon the Election Commission and requested for a free, fair and impartial union parishad elections that will be held from March 22 in partisan manner for the first time.

Elections to 752 union parishads, the biggest grassroots-level polls, will be held on March 22 on partisan lines for the first time.

There could be conflict among candidates of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance in the upcoming union parishad elections if a consensus was not reached by partners, fears a number of alliance components.
