Tough measures needed to keep prices of essentials in check

The government is considering reducing the value-added tax and supplementary duty on essentials such as edible oil, sugar, and dates in its efforts to keep the prices affordable for Ramadan.

With Ramadan less than two months away, the prices of chickpeas, dried peas, dates, and soybean oil have increased in Dhaka and Chattogram.
