The High Court (HC) questions the legality of the Election Commission’s decision to appoint deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners as returning officers for the upcoming general election slated for December 30.

Zahiruddin Swapan, a BNP-nominated aspirant for Barishal-1 constituency, yesterday sent a letter to the Election Commission seeking security for his family and party men under the Representation of the People Order (RPO).

Amid strong opposition from one election commissioner, the Election Commission yesterday decided to send a proposal to the government for amending the electoral laws so it can use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the December national polls.
