Students of Dhaka University (DU) block the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka demanding justice for killing of their fellow Sujan Mridha, who was shot in violence during Union Parishad polls in Madaripur.

A total of 78.46 present votes are cast in the second phase of the country’s Union Parishad elections, an official of the Election Commission says.

Citing an oblique reference to the first phase of Union Parishad elections, the ruling Awami League claims that the second phase of UP polls is held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Stern actions will be taken against law enforcers and polling officers if they show any negligence of duty during the second phase of Union Parishad elections, says Election Commissioner Md Shah Nawaz.
