The frequent shuffle of franchises, and their names as a result, has fans and players alike discussing whether to refer to the individual franchises that represent a given region as their home team.

The Tigers only have eight T20Is lined up this year – three at home against Sri Lanka in March and five against Zimbabwe in April – ahead of the World Cup in the United States (US) and the West Indies, amplifying the importance of this year's BPL.

The cricket grounds have started to buzz with the presence of star cricketers as the players are preparing for the 10th edition of the franchise-based Bangladesh Premier League, beginning January 19.

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is entering a new chapter in his life as he is contesting in the national polls from Magura-1. For Shakib, cricket will have to take a backseat for a while. Still new to his political career, he was not keen on some of the hard questions on both politics and cricket. However, during an interview with Abdullah Al Mehdi of The Daily Star, Shakib did say things that somewhat contradicted his original stance about not featuring in the next ODI World Cup and the national team captaincy issue, which gained steam as of late with many suggesting a change in leadership, especially since Najmul Hossain Shanto did bring promising results in his short stint as an an interim skipper.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) seems to be uncertain about finding the next long-time skipper of the national side even more than a month after the World Cup 2023.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan couldn’t stay away from the field for too long despite being occupied in campaigning for the upcoming general elections where he will be contesting for the ruling Awami League from the Magura-1 constituency in his hometown. 

"Bangladesh teams for the last 15 years were used to having Shakib. We are finding it hard to make a combination [without him]."

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has signed a two-year contract with Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. 

“Shakib is still our captain. We have given the captaincy to Shanto [Najmul Hossain] for just two series against New Zealand,” Jalal said today

“My plan is to give all my time to the national team. Maybe, I will sacrifice all the franchise tournaments that I used to play,” said Shakib.

Taijul Islam, who spun Bangladesh to their maiden home Test win over New Zealand in Sylhet, spoke with The Daily Star's Mazhar Uddin, where he opened up about his views on getting overshadowed by his more prominent teammates and gave his two cents about the use of home advantage in home Tests.
