The sinking of a coal-laden vessel on Saturday has prompted the government to ban again the operation of all vessels in the Shela River, a dolphin sanctuary in the Sundarbans.

Govt bans Shela river route in Sundarbans, again
All vessels have been barred from using the Shela river route through the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and a listed heritage site, days after a coal-laden vessel sank in the river. This is the second time the route has been banned after an oil tanker sank in the same river a year ago.
