Scrap vessel imports by Bangladesh hit a four-year low in 2022 as banks in the country have become reluctant to open letters of credit amid the ongoing US dollar shortage, according to industry people.

The Department of Environment (DoE) Chattogram fined nine businesses, including three shipbreaking yards, Tk 8,20,000 in total for polluting the environment and violating the stipulated conditions in DoE's clearance certificate.
