Tea garden workers across the country go on indefinite work abstention from today demanding wage hike.

Workers of 241 tea gardens across the country enforced a work abstention today, demanding increase of their daily wage – Tk 300 from Tk 120.

Monaf Mia, a 65-year-old tea worker in Mominchhara tea garden of Sylhet’s Fenchuganj, works in the gardens all day, only to come back home at night to get soaked in rainwater, due to the dilapidated condition of the roof over his head.

On  May 20, 1921, around 3,000 tea labourers were waiting at Chandpur railway station.

Around five thousand families of agitating tea garden workers in Chandpur of Habiganj are passing their days in fear of attack by Chunarughat upazila chairman men who allegedly roughed up three protesters on Saturday.
