The government has decided to remove any “exaggerated” historical information or “unnecessary” glorification of any individuals from textbooks for the upcoming academic year, officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) have said.

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board has been stuck in the loop of controversies centring on school textbooks with academics and some NCTB officials blaming it on the negligence of writers and editors, insufficient training and lack of serious punishment for blunders.

The process of formulating manuscripts by NCTB as well as the publication and distribution of textbooks are riddled with irregularities and corruption, said a study of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
