Only 40 percent of social safety net budget catering to poor, vulnerable groups

After suspending the Food-Friendly Programme due to dwindling food reserves last year, the government is now resuming the scheme to give rice to 2.5 crore ultra-poor people at Tk 10 a kg.

The government yesterday formally launched the country's first-ever health protection scheme to ensure healthcare for the poor. Under the pilot project titled Shasthyo Suroksha Karmashuchi (SSK), the government will provide health cards to one lakh extreme poor households in Kalihati, Madhupur and Ghatail upazilas of Tangail.
