US President Donald Trump said that a US-funded project to strengthen the political landscape in Bangladesh worth $29 million had gone to a firm with just two people that nobody had ever heard of.

Thousands of Bangladeshi development professionals face uncertainty as US government-funded projects have been halted following an executive order by the Trump administration on January 20.

Bangladesh is not eligible to receive funding from the US International Development Finance Corporation because of concerns about labour rights violations.
