US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu yesterday told the government they will support the withdrawal of sanctions against Rapid Action Battalion, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman said.

The sanctions imposed by the US against Rapid Action Battalion and seven of its former and current officials will stay in place, until the perpetrators are held accountable.

It was a sombre occasion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity premises on April 30.

The main accused in the murder of Mohiuddin Sarkar – who was shot dead by drug dealers in Cumilla's Burichang upazila on April 13 – was killed in a “gunfight” with Rab early today. This is the first "gunfight" death since the US sanction on Rab about four months ago.
