The US has called on North Korea to immediately release an American student sentenced to 15 years' hard labour for crimes against the state.

US student Otto Warmbier has been given 15 years hard labour in North Korea for crimes against the state.

North Korea says it has arrested a US student accused of committing a "hostile act" against the state. State news agency KCNA identifies him as University of Virginia student Otto Frederick Warmbier.
