According to the reports of WABetaInfo, an update in WhatsApp is currently under development that would give the users more control over the amount of compression it applies to sent images and videos.

The two features that are currently in development for the Android app are "Auto," "Best quality," or "Data saver." Currently, avoiding WhatsApp's compression involves changing a file's extension to send it as a document rather than an image or video

Once this update is introduced, it would let the users force media to be more compressed or lower the amount of compression to ensure images or videos are sent in their highest possible quality.

However, the time of the official release of the two features has not been disclosed yet.
