2 killed in bus-easy bike collision in Gopalganj

Two people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a battery-run easy bike on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj's Muksudpur upazila today.

The deceased were identified as Ranu Begum, 60, wife of Akmal Sheikh of Maheshpur village under Kashiani upazila, and Hayat Sheikh, 65, son of Abdul Haque of the same village.

Md Abu Noman, sub-inspector of Bhanga Highway Police, said a bus of Dola Paribahan, heading towards Khulna from Dhaka, collided head-on with the easy bike coming from the opposite direction, while overtaking another bus around 11:30am.

The accident left one passenger of the easy bike dead on the spot and six others injured, said SI Noman.

The injured were taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, where another died , he said.

As the condition of the injured is critical, they have been referred to different hospitals.

Agitating locals set fire to the bus.

Later, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the bus fire under control in 15 minutes.
