3 more test positive for Covid-19 in Jamalpur
Three more people, including a 10-year-old madrasa student, tested positive for Covid-19 in Jamalpur today, bringing the number of coronavirus cases in the district to 11 so far.
The patients who tested positive are a 34-year-old sub assistant community medical officer (SACMO) at Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, a 37-year-old driver at the same health complex and a 10-year-old madrasa boy, residents of Jamalpur's Sarishabari Upazila, Sherpur Sadar Upazila and Islampur Upazila respectively.
Their samples were collected after they had been suffering from Covid-19-like symptoms and sent to the microbiology department of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) on Saturday, said Jamalpur Civil Surgeon Abu Sayeem Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman.
The tests returned positive and the local health department of Jamalpur was informed this evening, said the civil surgeon.
Earlier, a 34-year-old pharmacist at the same upazila health complex where the SACMO and the driver worked had tested positive for the virus on April 8, he said.
Of the 11 cases of Covid-19 in Mymensingh so far, a 28-year-old woman with coronavirus-like symptoms died at her home in Islampur Upazila on April 9. After her death, samples were collected and tested positive for Covid-19, the civil surgeon said, adding, she was a worker at a garment factory in Gazipur.
The patients who have tested positive for the virus have been shifted to an isolation centre set up at a newly built structure of the Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur town, the civil surgeon added.
