4 ARSA members arrested in Ukhiya after 'gunfight'
The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested four members of Myanmar's armed group Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Army (ARSA) following a gun battle in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya Rohingya camp last night.
The arrestees are Md Zubair, 20, Nur Mohammad, 25, Mosa Bibi, 18 and Jamila Begum, 48.
Syed Harun or Rashid, additional deputy inspector general of APBn-14 said they also recovered four riffles, 57 bullets, and walkie-talkies during the drive.
He said a gunfight ensued when a team of APBn went to the Rohingya camp no. 7 in Balukhali on information that 10 to 15 ARSA members including its top leader Samih Uddin were staying there.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire at the APBn members who fired back for self-defence, he said.
However, according to the APBn official, the criminals managed to flee from there and took shelter at Rohingya shelter camps no. 5 and 6 in Kutupalong.
The APBn carried out another raid and arrested the four including the two females from there, said Harun, the commanding officer of the APBn battalion
Samih Uddin managed to flee, he added.
Of the arrestees, Zubair suffered bullet injuries.
Harun said the arrestees are ARSA members and had gathered in the Rohingya camp with the intention of committing crimes.
