A Bangladeshi farmer was shot dead allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Jagdal border in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon this afternoon.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Jinnat, 55, son of Mafizuddin of Dharmagarh colony village under the same upazila, reports our local correspondent quoting a BGB official.

Lt Col Tangir Ahmed, commanding officer of Thakurgaon BGB battalion-50, told this correspondent over the phone that some BSF troops of Mukesh camp in India opened fire on Jinnat while he went near the barbed wire fence along pillar no.374 crossing the no man's land around 1:30pm.

Later, other Bangladeshi nationals rescued Jinnat. He later died while he was being brought to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

Primarily it was learnt that Jinnat went there to collect grass for his cattle, the CO said.

BGB strongly protested the killing during a company commander-level flag meeting held immediately after the incident, Lt Col Tanjir added.

BSF however denied the allegation during a battalion commander-level flag meeting with BGB at the zero line. Lt Col Tangir Ahmed led the Bangladesh team while Sanjit Kumar Khatri, commandant of 152 BSF battalion, led the Indian side.
