Two crude bombs exploded in quick succession at a rally of the Awami League-led 14-party combine in Joypurhat wound six people

At least six people were injured as two crude bombs exploded in quick succession at a rally of the Awami League-led 14-party combine in Joypurhat today.

Rebeka Sultana and Nazma Begum, president and secretary of Mohila AL of Joypurhat respectively, were among the injured, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

The injured were admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.

Protesting the explosions, the combine leaders and activists attacked and torched the BNP office in Joypurhat town. However, the fire-fighters doused the blaze.

Witnesses said local AL leaders brought out a peace procession in the town this afternoon. After parading different streets, they held a public meeting at Zero Point intersection (Pachurmor), protesting the nonstop blockade and frequent hartals called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Police Station, said some of the injured were being taken to Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.

Jahurul Islam, general secretary of Joypurhat AL, claimed that Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men were behind the incident.
