A gang of criminals has allegedly robbed Tk 78 lakh from cattle traders by firing blanks in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila.

The incident took place on ​​Gorai-Sakhipur road in Nayapara area under Bashtail union after iftar this evening.

Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun told The Daily Star that cattle traders Piarul Hossain, Liton Miah and Monirul Islam from Rajshahi came to the local Kaitala market with 28 buffaloes. They were returning in a private car after iftar with two bags containing Tk 78 lakh after the sale of buffaloes.

On the way, a gang on seven or eight motorcycles and a microbus stopped the private car. They fired a few blank shots, snatched the two bags full of money and fled towards Hatubhanga.

On information, a police team went to the spot and quizzed the witnesses.

The police officer also said the operation is underway to arrest the criminals.

 

The process to file a case in this regard is underway, he added.
