Journo sent to jail for ‘torturing wife’

A court in Dhaka today sent a reporter of private television channel ATN News to jail for allegedly torturing his wife.

Wife of Atikur Rahman Khan Purnia filed a case with Ramna Police Station last evening accusing the journalist of torturing her for dowry.

Later the same evening, police arrested Purnia in Ramna area.

Police produced him before the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka this afternoon.

After hearing police’s submission, Metropolitan Magistrate Waezkuruni Khan Chowdhury sent Purnia to jail.

The defence lawyer submitted a bail petition. The court fixed tomorrow to hear the petition.
