Kabiraj sent to jail over rape of woman

A Mymensingh court today sent a kabiraj (rural healer) to jail for allegedly raping a 36-year-old woman in Mymensingh's Muktagacha upazila.

Police arrested the alleged rapist, Kabiraj Abdul Khaleque, 65, from Boro Bajail village after the victim filed a case with Muktagacha Police Station yesterday, said Md Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The arrestee was produced before a Mymensingh court this afternoon, which sent him to jail, said the OC.

The victim was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a medical cheek-up, the OC added.

Quoting the case statement, OC Md Kamal Hossain said the woman had not conceived even after three years of marriage. In her hope of having a child, she recently sought treatment from a kabiraj and paid him Tk 15,000.

On March 8, when she visited the kabiraj's house for treatment, he took her to a private room and raped her.
