Khandker Mosharraf removed from LGRD parliamentary body
Ruling Awami League Lawmaker from Faridpur-3, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, has been removed as the chief of the parliamentary standing committee on LGRD ministry today.
Nurul Islam Nahid, former education minister, is the new chairman of the parliamentary watchdog.
Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton on behalf of Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina placed the proposal in parliament and it was passed by voice vote.
Khandker Mosharraf, former LGRD minister, who has long been staying abroad, remained absent in the parliament.
Since March last year, the parliamentary standing committee could not hold any meeting due to his absence in parliament, sources at the Parliament Secretariat said.
The parliamentary body held only two meetings last year.
According to the rules of procedure of the Jatiya Sangsad, a parliamentary body is supposed to hold at least one meeting every month.
But the JS body did not hold any meeting in the last 10 months.
