Man sent to jail over attempted rape of housewife

A Jashore court today sent a man to jail in a case filed over attempted rape of a housewife in Jhikargachha upazila of Jashore on Friday.

Police arrested the accused, Alauddin Sardar, 50, from Raita village of Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district early today, said Bablur Rahman Khan, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station.

He was produced before a court, which sent him to jail this afternoon, added the OC.

According to the case statement, the woman's husband went to visit a relative's house with their two daughters on Thursday.

Around 12:30am yesterday, when the victim went outside to use the washroom, Alauddin entered her room. When she returned to the house, Alauddin tried to rape her, threatening her with a locally-made weapon.

Hearing her screams, other members of the household rushed to the scene, but Alauddin managed to escape.

The victim filed a case with Jhikargachha Police Station later in the day leading to the arrest.
