M’singh students gearing up for Mangal Shobhajatra
The students of the Fine Arts Department at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) are busy preparing for the Mongol Shobhajatra rally to celebrate Pahela Baishakh on their campus.
As the Bangalee New Year approaches, around 100 students from the department have been working tirelessly to complete the artworks.
Khokon Das, a master's student, said that some senior students are leading preparations under the guidance of the department head Nagorbasi Barman and faculty member Masum Hawlader.
The students are making images of traditional items such as decorated pots, dolls, birds, animals and musical instruments at the department premises to make the procession flamboyant, he added.
The students said preparations for the rally will be completed on time, and some 200 masks of different images will be included. The rally will feature natural and traditional elements of rural Bangla.
Meanwhile, JKKNIU authorities will host day-long programmes. The day's programmes include a traditional rally, a discussion meet, and a cultural show.
Vice-chancellor of JKKNIU, Prof Dr Soumitra Sekhar Dey, said they hope to observe the day with a new flurry of festivities and celebrations involving the people of local areas.
The students of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Fine Arts Institute in Mymensingh are also busy preparing to welcome the New Year, said Mohammad Abdur Rouf, acting principal of the college. A cultural show will also be held marking the day.
Mymensingh Bibhagiyo Charu Shilpi Parshad, a forum of painters, will organise a painting competition for children at the town's Zainul Park to celebrate the day, said Md Rajon, the forum's president.
Besides, Mymensingh Borshoboron Utjapon Parishad, and different socio-cultural and educational institutions in the district are also getting on with their preparations.
