A man tests positive for Covid-19 in Narail’s Lohagara upazila yesterday, the first confirmed coronavirus case in the district.

A man tested positive for Covid-19 in Par Chhatra village in Narail's Lohagara upazila yesterday, the first confirmed coronavirus case in the district.

Narail Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Momen confirmed the development to reporters around 9:00pm last night.

"So far, 23 samples from the district have been sent for testing to Khulna Medical College. Of those we have gotten results of 17, some verbally and some written. 16 have came back negative, while one has tested positive. "We got the verbal report of the positive test and are hoping for a written report tomorrow [Tuesday]," the civil surgeon said.

The man who tested positive returned to the district from Narayanganj -- a hotspot of Covid-19 infection -- recently, and his samples were sent for tests after he started exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms, the civil surgeon said.

He has so far been relatively healthy, Dr Momen added.
