Nine more test positive for Covid-19 in Cumilla
Nine more people tested positive for coronavirus in Cumilla district today.
Dr Md Neyatuzzaman, civil surgeon of Cumilla, confirmed the matter, adding that it was a big blow for the district's efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Three of the nine confirmed cases are from Titas upazila, two from Daudkandi and one each from Chandina, Sadar Dakkhin upazila, Burichang and Brahmanpara.
The samples had been sent for tests to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka after the patients started exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms, the civil surgeon said.
In Daudkandi upazila, both the infected are garment workers at the same factory in Narayanganj.
Daudkandi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrun Islam Khan said, "Two persons tested positive, one a 40-year-old male from Shreerayer Chor village. Twenty houses and a salon in Khalisha Bazar has been locked down. The other positive test from Daudkandi was of a 35-year-old female from Borkota village. Eight houses that she came she went to recent have been locked down."
In Chandina upazila, the samples of a 19-year-old female diagnostic technician came back positive for the virus.
After the positive result, six families of Etbarpur village and another family from Madhosair village of the upazila were sent into isolation, Chandina upazila UNO Snehasis Das said.
In Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila, a garments worker around 30 years of age from Bijoypur's Rajarkhola area tested positive for Covid-19. He had come back from Narayanganj, where his roommate died of coronavirus.
In Brahmanpara upazila, a 30-year-old garment worker of Takai village also tested positive for the virus.
Fauzia Siddika, upazila nirbahi officer, said, "The person had been working in a garment factory in Gazipur. He came to his village on April 10. Three houses that he could have come into contact with have been locked down."
In Burichang upazila, a 24-year-old woman tested positive for Covid-19. The infected person had returned from Dhaka, where her husband works in a garments factory, said Burichang UNO Imrul Hasan.
The UNO confirmed that seven houses were locked down after the tests came back positive.
In Titas upazila, three people tested positive for the virus from Moutupi and Biramkandi villages, civil surgeon Neyatuzzaman said. Although details of the confirmed cases could not be known immediately, he added that the woman confirmed to be Covid-19 positive in Biramkandi is the sister of a man who had earlier tested positive for the virus.
In all, 18 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Cumilla.
Two have died in Dhaka and Narayanganj. Out of 176 samples tested, 146 results have been received. A total of 4,136 persons have been sent to quarantine and 3,318 persons released.
