Office room of under-construction model mosque site vandalised, money looted

Allegations have been brought against a local coordinator of Students Against Discrimination in Pirojpur of allegedly vandalising an under-construction office of a model mosque and looting Tk 5 lakh in Pirojpur town this afternoon.

The accused is Musabbir Mahmud Sunny, one of the coordinators of Students Against Discrimination in Pirojpur and also a representative of Jatiya Nagorik Committee.

Shahidul Islam, site manager of the mosque project, alleged that on Friday around 12pm, around 30-40 men led by Sunny attacked at the office room of the under construction mosque, vandalised it and beat them.

"Later, they looted Tk 5 lakh from there which we kept to pay for labour cost and cement and stone," Shahidul has said.

He added that a few days ago, Sunny had gone to him and demanded Tk 20 lakh.

Denying the allegation, Sunny said demanding a ban on Awami League, students and general people brought out a procession in the town. From there, the under-construction mosque site was attacked.

"However, I am not involved with the attack," he said.

He also denied taking Tk 5 lakh from there.

Visiting the spot, Md Mukit Hasan Khan, additional superintendent of police in Pirojpur, said they are investigating the matter.

Legal action will be taken after investigation.

"We have also asked the victims to file written complaint with the police station," he said.
