The arrestee is Mazumdar Kamrul Hasan.

"He was arrested from his father-in-law's house at the Halishahar Block-I area. He hid there to avoid arrest after the weapons got seized," said Assistant Commissioner ( Doublemooring zone) Md Arif Hossain, reports our Chattogtam staff correspondent.

"As a case was lodged at Bandar Police Station, we handed him over to the police station after the arrest," he added.

The official said they found the weapons hidden in the carton along with a frying pan, drill machine, glass, soaps and chocolate.

Two of the four pistols were initially thought to be toys and made of plastic according to police and customs officials.

According to customs documents, the parcel was sent from Rome, Italy by a Bangladeshi expatriate named Rajib Barua who is a friend of Kamrul.

It was supposed to be delivered to Kamrul in port city's CGS Colony.
