3 BCL activists suspended from DU hall for torturing student

Three Chhatra League activists of Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit of Dhaka University were suspended from the hall for six months for torturing and bullying a student a week ago.

Three Chhatra League activists of Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit of Dhaka University were suspended from the hall for six months for torturing and bullying a student a week ago.

The hall's Provost Prof Dr Abdul Bashir confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

The decision came after a probe body formed by the hall authority found the involvement of the three students.

The suspended students are -- Kamruzzaman Raju of sociology department; Hridoy Ahmed Kajal of history department; and Yamin Islam of social welfare and research department.

Primarily, the victim -- Aktarul Islam -- submitted a written complaint to the hall authority. In the complaint, he mentioned six names. Among them, only three were found involved with the incident.

A first-year student of mass communication department was allegedly bullied and mentally tortured by a few senior students at the guest room of Bijoy Ekattor Hall around 10pm last Wednesday.
