BCL GS injured during infighting at DU campus
Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya was injured during a clash that broke out between two factions of the ruling Awami League's student body at Dhaka University campus today.
The incident happened at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla monument on the university campus around 2pm.
Witnesses said the clash ensued as leaders of the two groups tried to stand in front of the stage for an event being held marking the 74th founding anniversary of BCL.
BCL President Al-Nahian Khan Joy, its General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya, DU BCL President Sanjit Chandra Das and its General Secretary Saddam Hussain and other senior BCL leaders were seated on the stage at the time.
Seeking anonymity, a BCL activist said shortly after the commencement of the founding anniversary programme, the leaders and activists of BCL Dhaka College unit and DU Jasim Uddin Hall unit started quarrelling over who would stand in front of the stage and at one point, they started pelting stones toward one another.
BCL GS Lekhak Bhattacharjee was injured in the head after being hit by a stone, while 10 more BCL men were also injured at that time, added the BCL activist.
However, BCL president Al Nahian Khan Joy and DU BCL president Sanjit Chandra Das could not be reached for comment in this regard, despite repeated calls.
BCL central committee Joint General Secretary Abdul Jubbar Raj said Lekhak Bhattacharjee received a minor head injury but the matter was resolved.
