Cancel policy barring pregnant, married students at halls: DU provosts
Dhaka University Provost Standing Committee has recommended cancelling an existing restriction on pregnant and married students staying at DU residential halls.
The recommendation of the committee came at a meeting chaired by the DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Akhtaruzzaman, said the committee's member secretary Prof Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, reports our campus correspondent.
The recommendation will be placed before the syndicate meeting of the university and a decision will be taken based on it, said Rabbani.
Hall provosts, proctor and pro-vice-chancellor were present during the meeting.
In the recommendation, the committee also said the female students who would be pregnant should stay with their families.
According to a section related to allotting seats at five female residential halls of Dhaka University, "If any student is married, she needs to inform the authorities immediately, otherwise, her seat will be cancelled due to violation of rules. Only in special cases, can married students be allowed to stay at halls for the current session. If any student gets pregnant, she too cannot stay in halls".
Recently, the students of five female DU dormitories raised questions over the rule and demanded cancelling it.
