Chittagong Medical College closed indefinitely following BCL factional clash
Chittagong Medical College (CMC) has been closed for an indefinite period following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) college unit today.
Male students have been ordered to leave halls by 5:00pm today while female students have been given 24 hours to leave their dormitories, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting CMC Principal Prof Dr Shahena Akter.
"All the undergraduate examinations have been postponed while the postgraduate-level exams will continue," she said.
Earlier in the morning, two factions of BCL activists locked in a clash on the campus where three students sustained minor injuries, said sources at the CMCH.
Police brought the situation under control.
After the clash, the CMC academic committee sat in a meeting in the afternoon and decided to close the college for an indefinite time until further decision.
One faction loyal to former Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, also general secretary of Chattogram city unit Awami League, and other loyal to Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, also clashed inside the hostel last night.
