The Chattogram Medical College (CMC) authorities have entrusted the CMC Grievance Redressal Committee to probe into the torture of four students in a dormitory.

The CMC Academic Council took the decision in a meeting yesterday, said CMC Principal Prof Shahena Akhter.

The nine-member committee -- headed by CMC Vice Principal Prof Hafizul Islam -- was asked to submit its probe report in three working days, she said.

Asked about the two students admitted to the ICU, she said they were doing well.

Pranoy Kumar Dutta, associate professor of ICU and Anesthesiology at CMCH, echoed the same.

Contacted, Manjur Quader, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said no case was filed in this connection till yesterday afternoon. "We are looking into the incident," he said.

According to CMC sources, activists of Chhatra League confined four students -- Zahid Hossain Wakil, Sakib Hossain, MA Raihan, and Mobashwer Hossain Shubhra -- to a room of the hostel from Wednesday midnight to Thursday evening and beat them, on suspicion that they were Shibir activists.

However, Abhijit Das, a BCL leader at CMC, denied the allegation.
