Death of Prof Selim: Kuet suspends 9 students
The authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) have suspended nine students in connection with the death of Prof Md Selim Hossain, a teacher of the university's electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) department.
The decision came from the 76th meeting of the university syndicate on December 3, said a press release issued by the Kuet today, reports our Khulna correspondent.
The suspended students are: Sadman Nahian Sejan and Md Riaz Khan Niloy of Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Md Tahamidul Haque Ishraq and Mahmudul Hasan of Civil Engineering (CE), Md Sadman Shakib and ASM Ragib Ahsan Munna of Department of Leather Engineering (LE), Mohammad Kamruzzaman and Faisal Ahmed Rifat of Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Md Naimur Rahman Antu of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Department.
After scrutinising CCTV footage and other information, the syndicate has decided at the meeting to suspend the students for breaching discipline and code of conduct, added the release.
Prof Md Selim Hossain, also provost of Lalon Shah Hall, was found dead at his home on Tuesday.
Selim died hours after several Chhatra League activists confined him in his office and mentally tortured him, alleged faculty members of the university.
The university authorities formed a three-member committee to probe the incident.
Meanwhile, Kuet has been closed till December 13. Students were asked to leave dormitories.
