Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), who are continuing a "hunger strike until death" in front of the VC's residence demanding his resignation, today brought out a silent procession on the campus wearing shrouds.

Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), who are continuing a "hunger strike until death" in front of the VC's residence demanding his resignation, today brought out a silent procession on the campus wearing shrouds.

Nearly 200 students joined the procession, demanding SUST VC Farid Uddin Ahmed's resignation, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

The procession started from the university's Golchattar around 3pm and ended in front of the VC's residence around 3:30pm after going through different roads on the campus.

Before bringing out the procession, a spokesperson for the protesters said, "Our peers are continuing the hunger strike and no one has broken their fast. If anyone (VC) wants to hold on to his position in exchange of the lives of 23 fasting students, he doesn't have human values. We appeal to the president and prime minister to take immediate action to save the lives of our fellow students."

Sixteen of the fasting SUST students were hospitalised as of this afternoon.

According to a spokesperson, almost all of the students were given saline and vitamin supplements due to their poor physical condition. Twenty-four students started the hunger strike on January 19.
