Dhaka University has announced progress on the construction of the Bangladesh-China Maitree Hall, a new dormitory set to accommodate 1,500 female students, with financial support from the Chinese government.

The Tk 244-crore project is overseen by the Economic Relations Division (ERD), which coordinated with Chinese authorities through the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.

According to a DU press statement, the Chinese government has approved the project proposal, and internal procedures are ongoing. Once completed, a team of Chinese experts will visit Dhaka to conduct a feasibility study.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan has been in regular contact with the Chinese Embassy to expedite the project's implementation, the statement added.
