'I’m giving Tk 10,000, arrest me if you can', Dr Zafar Iqbal says at SUST
Expressing his frustration with the arrest of five former students for financially supporting the ongoing movement demanding the resignation of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dr Zafar Iqbal told reporters, "It's not a crime to support a student movement."
"Alumni can help the movement," he said. "The Prime Minister's Office has awarded me a Tk 10,000 honorarium for writing a memoir commemorating Bangabandhu's birth centenary. I'm donating that money to the movement's fund. Arrest me if you can," he added.
He further said, "I told the IGP to trust the students. Please don't harm them. Everyone has a smartphone nowadays. Show a photo of the students firing. There is no evidence for any of this."
