Protesters say will block Ray Shaheb Bazar intersection if demand ignored

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) today formed a human chain demanding the immediate removal of the illegal bus stand situated in front of the university's main gate.

The programme was held at the university's sculpture square, where students issued a 48-hour ultimatum to clear the bus stand. Following the demonstration, they submitted a memorandum to the university administration.

Ferdous Sheikh, chief organiser of the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangshad (BGCS) JnU unit, said, "The situation in front of our campus is such that an outsider would mistake the place for a bus stand, not a university. Despite repeated demands, the administration has not taken any step."

"Earlier, they asked for 24 hours, but nothing happened. We are now giving them 48 hours. If no action is taken within this time, we will block Ray Shaheb Bazar intersection and not let any bus enter."

Kishor Sammo, joint member secretary of the BGCS central committee, said, "The road in front of the university has been turned into a death trap with buses parked everywhere. The buses don't even give way to our university buses. This illegal bus stand is not only a threat to us but also damaging the campus environment and infrastructure."
